Kamloops Minor Lacrosse- Return to Lacrosse Guidelines Phase 3

image

As we work to try and get the kids back on the field for a modified 2020 field lacrosse season, there are clearly many new modifications and restrictions in place to ensure we do it safely.

Because of this, we are in need of additional volunteers to help out each session to make things run as smoothly and as safe as possible.

Below is a sign up sheet for anyone that is interested and able to help out. Please note that the sheet has multiple dated tabs at the bottom, so if you are willing to sign up for more than one practice time or date, please make sure to sign up on each date.

Dear Participant:

As British Columbia public health authorities develop guidelines to lift some restrictions on gathering in a responsible way, the BC Lacrosse Association has been working with viaSport and the Province of British Columbia to understand the recommendations our Chief Provincial Health Officer and how they best apply within sport.

The BC Lacrosse Association’s Return to Sport Guidelines (http://www.bclacrosse.com/return-to-lacrosse.php) document has been developed for our sport in order to ensure:
• health and safety of all individuals is a priority
• activities are in alignment with provincial health recommendations
• modifications to activities are in place in order to reduce the risks to each sport organization and its participants
• our sport is united and aligned on a plan to reopen throughout the province

While we do hope things will return to normal in the not too distant future, currently this Return to Sport Guidelines document will be the new normal until we are advised otherwise by public health authorities.

If you choose to participate, you must follow these rules:
• If you don’t feel well or are displaying symptoms of COVID-19, you must stay home.
• If you have traveled outside of Canada, you are not permitted at the facility until you have self-isolated for a minimum of 14 days.
• If you live in a household with someone who has COVID-19 or is showing symptoms of COVID-19, please stay home.
• Wash your hands before participating
• Bring your own equipment, water bottle and hand sanitizer
• Comply with physical distancing measures at all time
• Avoid physical contact with others, including shaking hands, high fives, etc.
• Leave the field of play as quickly as possible after you finish

Our Return to Sport Guidelines are based on current public health guidance. While we are all doing our best to minimize the risk of exposure to COVID-19, while the virus circulates in our communities it is impossible to completely eliminate the risk.

Each participant must make their own decision as to whether it is in their best interest to resume participation at this time. You must take into account your own circumstances and make the decision that is right for you. Should you choose to join us, we require your full cooperation with our Return to Sport Plan.

Sincerely,

Kevin Bankier
President
Kamloops Minor Lacrosse Association

During these unprecedented times the KMLA has been doing some hard work behind the scenes this summer to submit a plan to the City of Kamloops that fulfills the Return to Play guidelines within BC. We have secured a lit field at MacArthur Island from the end of August to October, where Phase 1 below will begin.

Phase 1 will be stick handling and drills of our program in a safe physical distance manner. This phase will be our primary focus at this time to be inclusive and fun while getting that much needed physical exercise for our youth.

Phase 2 if a field season materializes for those interested in playing games a second fee may be required.

Again, please visit our Facebook page and respond with your interest so we can get a better idea of how many kids are willing to participate.

Hello Kamloops Minor Lacrosse parents,

First, I would like to thank everyone for their continued patience as we navigate this unprecedented situation. We have been working hard amidst all the unknowns to find a way to have a 2020 box lacrosse season. Unfortunately, the difficult decision was made to cancel the season. It with the support of the box lacrosse and field lacrosse governing bodies and in consultation with the CLA’s Member Associations we came to this conclusion. Health and safety, travel concerns, venue closures, and many other factors were taken into consideration. Return-to-play or return-to-activity is in different phases across the province, provides unique challenges.

We continue to stress that when we do return to activity, the health and safety for all participants in the Lacrosse community is paramount and this is central to all our decisions around COVID-19. All involved in our sport must take direction from the appropriate health authorities, including the Public Health Agency of Canada and the BC Ministry of Health.

Full refunds will be provided to all paid registrants. All reimbursements will be sent out by June 19th at the latest, if not received by then please contact the treasurer. Again, we ask that you are patient as our volunteers work on this large project. At this time, we are working with the City of Kamloops, BCLA, ViaSport and various other organizations to come up with a return to play plan. We remain hopeful that we will be able to have a 2020 field lacrosse season. If your children have never played field lacrosse before it is a fantastic sport and kids love with when they get the chance to play it. It is outdoors and is a very good candidate for the return to sport platform.

When more information becomes available, you will be the first to know.

We know this is a difficult time for many and we appreciate your understanding. We are all in this together. Stay Safe and hope to see you in the fall.

Thank you,

Kevin Bankier
President,
Kamloops Minor Lacrosse Association.
